Russia Proposes Punishments for the Use of Deepfakes in Criminal Matters

The State Duma of Russia has registered a draft law to include the use of deepfakes in the list of aggravating circumstances under the criminal code. Deputies justify this initiative with the rising number of crimes related to artificial intelligence. Meanwhile, the Kremlin is attempting to control digital technologies, fearing their use against its own regime.
