The USA to Start Extracting Uranium from Seawater
Texas-based company SuperCritical Materials has received a license from the U.S. Department of Energy to extract uranium from seawater. The technology involves using specially treated acrylic fibers to capture dissolved uranium ions, despite the very low concentration of uranium in seawater. The U.S. currently imports about 75% of the enriched uranium used in its nuclear reactors.
